From jfoust@threedee.com Thu Jan 3 20:56:25 2002 Date: Thu, 06 Dec 2001 21:19:26 -0600 From: John Foust To: wireless@lists.bawug.org Subject: [BAWUG] ATMEL WAP11 config tool I am not pretending to have discovered this, but I thought I'd reveal it in plain English. It was obliquely mentioned on this list in late November. Using the original ATMEL AP Configuration utility like http://www.gigafast.com/drivers/SNMPV1743.exe , and creating two .INI files in your Windows system directory, you get several new menus items. Make "SNMPmanager.ini": [SNMPmanager] AppMode=2 AppView=2 and "DFUapp.ini" gets: [DFUapp] AppMode=2 The new Hardware Configuration dialog lets you change your regulatory domain (more channels in other countries?) or OEM ID, etc. The Radio Configuration dialog supposedly lets you change transmitter power. These "CR31" register values are set per-channel. Supposedly 0x80 means 100 mW and 0xFF means 1 mW. My WAP11 defaults ranged from 0xCC to 0xD4, or about 60% of max if this linear. There's a Radio Test dialog, but when I clicked "Start Test" it told me I wasn't authorized to do that. Must be another .INI setting we don't have. Ghosted buttons set CR31, A/B antenna, US or Japan filtering, rate, channel, and whether you want continuous Tx with or without modulation, or continuous Rx. I'm still wishing for a WAP11 way to watch signal strength - after all, if it can act as a bridge or access point client, you'd want that, right? However, I can't load its SNMPHELP.HLP, either from the menu within the SNMP program, or any other way. The error message says it was created for a language not supported by my version of Windows. Are the ATMEL products developed in France? How to load a French .HLP? I was just hoping to get deeper explanations of the bridge and PtMP modes. - John www.threedee.com
